OMAHA, Neb. – Gardner-Webb graduate Nathan Lile and rising senior Connor Bos swam in the men's 100m backstroke preliminaries Monday morning at the CenturyLink Center as part of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Lile (Waynesville, N.C. / Homeschool) finished third in heat five with a time of 57.29, just shy of his 57.05 qualifying time in the event. The 2016 CCSA Male Swimmer of the Year's time was 112th fastest among the 19 heats.
Lile swam the first 50 meters in 27.73 seconds. The recent GWU graduate will swim later in the week in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly – which will each take place Friday, July 1.
Bos (Holland, Mich. / Holland HS) took ninth in heat 13 with a time of 58.10, including a 27.55-second split over his first 50 meters. Bos' time was good for 162nd overall in the event.
Bos will return for his senior season at Gardner-Webb in 2016-2017 with an eye on continuing his momentum in the pool – and challenging for Academic All-America honors as well.
