CONCORD, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team was chosen to finish sixth in the 2016-17 Big South Conference preseason poll, announced Tuesday as part of the league's 2016-17 Basketball Tip-Off Media Luncheon.
The Runnin' Bulldogs collected two third-place votes, one fifth-place vote, and two sixth-place votes to finish with 50 points in the tabulation, which was compiled from votes by the Big South's 10 head coaches and select media members from each school.
UNC Asheville collected eight first-place votes to be chosen as the preseason favorite with 97 points. Radford was chosen second with 78 points.
Gardner-Webb enters the season coming off of its third straight 15-win season, finishing the 2015-16 season with a 19-12 record.
GWU welcomes back two starters in Alexus Hill (Rocky Mount, N.C.) and Tierra Huntsman (Connersville, Ind.), as well as six others who saw significant playing time throughout last season, including lone senior Kiera Currie (Romeoville, Ill.).
Gardner-Webb will open the 2016-17 season on Friday, November 11th, facing UAB at 5:00 pm as part of the Maggie Dixon Classic in Chicago, Ill.
