FARMVILLE, Va. – Gardner-Webb had two scorers reach double-figures as the Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Longwood, 77-43, in Big South Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (6-8, 1-2 Big South) was led in scoring by Tierra Huntsman, who scored 19 points on a 6-of-10 shooting performance. The redshirt-junior was also 2-of-4 from behind the three-point line, was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line, and added seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Carley Plentovich also added a career-high 16 points for the Runnin' Bulldogs, going 6-of-11 from the floor, including three made three-pointers.
Longwood (3-11, 0-3 Big South) was led offensively by Khaila Hall who had 12 points. The leading rebounder for the Lancers was Micaela Ellis, who pulled down seven boards.
GWU was 26-of-58 from the floor as a team, shooting at a 44.8% clip, while holding Longwood to a shooting percentage of 25.0% on 14-56 shooting.
Longwood opened the game with a quick 4-0 run, but the Runnin' Bulldogs would respond with a 16-1 run throughout the remainder of the period, giving GWU a 16-5 lead. Carley Plentovich scored eight points in the quarter, knocking down two shots from long range.
The Lancers began the second period much like the first with a 4-0 run to pull with seven points at 16-9 with 8:46 on the clock, yet GWU would respond on its next possession as Savannah Plentovich would connect from downtown to push the lead back to double-digits. The Runnin' Bulldogs would extend their lead to as high as 17 points at 30-13 with 3:00 remaining in the half after another three-point basket from Carley Plentovich, and would lead at the end of the period by 16 points, 34-18.
Gardner-Webb would strike first in the third period, as Evelyn Adebayo would score with a layup with 9:13 on the clock. GWU would push its lead to 20 points at 41-21 with 7:04 remaining after Carley Plentovich converted an old-fashioned three-point play, and would lead by 19 at the end of the quarter, 52-33.
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the final period of play with a 13-2 run to build a 30 point lead at 65-35 with 5:32 to go, capped by a layup from Huntsman. Gardner-Webb would build its advantage to a game-high 34 points at 75-41 with 1:11 on the clock after Morgan Ackermann knocked down a three-pointer, and would go on to win by that margin, 77-43.
