Runnin’ Bulldogs Fall at Presbyterian, 58-47, Tuesday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – A cold-shooting first half doomed Gardner-Webb, as the Runnin' Bulldogs dropped a 58-47 decision at Presbyterian on Tuesday evening.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (10-14, 5-8 Big South) shot only 23.1 percent in the first half, while Presbyterian (10-14, 8-5 Big South) shot 41.1 percent for the half, building a 16 point lead at halftime.

Presbyterian opened the game with a quick 5-0 spurt in the first two minutes until Charlisa Jenkins was able to put GWU on the board, making a layup with 7:58 on the clock. The Blue Hose would respond with two consecutive three pointers to lead 11-2 with 6:49 on the clock. 

Gardner-Webb would respond, going on a 7-2 run over the next 3:33, pulling within four points at 13-9 after a layup by Evelyn Adebayo with 3:16 on the clock

PC would close out the first period with a 9-2 run to lead by 11 points at 22-11.

The Blue Hose would extend their lead to 16 points with 2:54 to go in the second period, yet Tierra Huntsman would answer with a three pointer on the next possession to trim the deficit to 13 points at 28-15.  

The two teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the period before PC would hit a three pointer with three seconds left on the clock to lead by 16 at the half, 35-19.

The Runnin' Bulldogs would respond at the onset of the third period, opening the frame with a 9-0 run over the first five minutes of play to pull within nine points at 35-26 after a pair of free throws from Carley Plentovich

Presbyterian would then score five unanswered points to push its lead back to 14 points at 40-26 with 4:28 to go and would lead by that margin, 52-38, at the end of the period.

The Runnin' Bulldogs would make two quick baskets to open the fourth period, as Alexus Hill knocked down a jumper on the opening possession, and Huntsman scored on a layup on the team's next trip down the court to cut PC's lead to 10 points at 52-42 with 9:15 on the clock. 

Both teams would trade baskets over the next few minutes, with Presbyterian taking a 12-point lead with 3:50 remaining.  

Jenkins would make one free throw with 3:16 on the clock to set the score at 58-47, and neither team would score for the remainder of the game.

Huntsman led the Runnin' Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points, going 4-for-8 from the floor.  The team shot 36.6 percent for the game, shooting 60 percent in the second half.

Janie Miles led Presbyterian offensively with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting, with the team shooting 41.3 percent for the night.
