Runnin’ Bulldogs Fall to First-Place Radford, 51-42, Tuesday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A jumper by Carley Plentovich with 6:46 left in game gave Gardner-Webb a one point lead over Radford, but the Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to hold off the Big South Conference leading Highlanders, who closed the game on a 10-0 run to take a 51-42 decision on Tuesday night.

Gardner-Webb (11-15, 6-9 Big South) fought back from nine down with 6:26 to go in the third period to go on a 15-5 run to take a lead for the first time since late in the first period, but Radford (20-6, 12-3 Big South) would reclaim the lead on its next possession with 6:21 to go in the fourth period on a layup by Janayla White.  

The Runnin' Bulldogs would miss their next six shot attempts, being held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.

GWU would open the game with a brief 5-2 spurt, holding its largest lead of the game at three points with 7:03 to go in the first period after a three-pointer by Carley Plentovich

Radford would respond with two straight three-point baskets to take its first lead of the contest, and the two teams would swap the lead four more times in the opening quarter, with the Highlanders holding a three-point advantage at 15-12 at the end of the frame.

Radford would lead throughout the entire second period, leading by as much as nine points before a late basket by Evelyn Adebayo set the score at 27-20 at halftime.

The Highlanders would once again build their lead to as high as nine points in the third period after a layup by Jayda Worthy with 6:26 on the clock, but the Runnin' Bulldogs would not allow another field goal by Radford for the remainder of the quarter, pulling within one point at 37-36 as play headed to the final period. 

Radford would expand its lead to four points with 7:47 to go in the game, but the Runnin' Bulldogs would score the next five points to take the one-point lead with 6:46 remaining.

Tierra Huntsman paced the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively, scoring 16 points on 4-of-18 shooting, and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. 

Worthy was the leading scorer for the Highlanders, scoring 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
