Women's Golf Finishes Third At 2016 ECU Lady Pirate Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Julia Henderson and Taylor Dodson each finished in the top-10 individually to lead Gardner-Webb women's golf to a tie for third at the 2016 ECU Lady Pirate Invitational.

Gardner-Webb (305-304-301-910) lowered its score each round at the Greenville Country Club, highlighted by a final round score of 301 to finish in a tie with Morehead State.

Host East Carolina shot a three-round score of 880 to win the title for the second year in a row. GWU finished just two strokes out of second place, which was captured by Elon.

Henderson (76-72-73-221) finished in seventh, just nine strokes off the lead and three strokes behind a tie for fifth. Dodson (72-75-75-222) was only one stroke behind in a tie for eighth.

Dodson ranked among the tournament leaders with 11 birdies, which was the fifth-best mark among competitors. Henderson holed out seven birdies in her three rounds.

Sarah Bertram (78-72-77-227) tied for 21st individually to round out Gardner-Webb's top-25 finishers. Allison Chandler (t-69th) and Morgan Laird (93rd) also competed for the Runnin' Bulldogs in Monday and Tuesday's action.

Coach Tee Burton's quintet finished the highest of five Big South Conference teams competing at the ECU Lady Pirate Invitational, outdistancing their conference counterparts by at least eight strokes.

Gardner-Webb will remain close to home for its next fall outing, traveling down I-85 to participate in the 2016 Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, S.C., on October 9-11. The Country Club of Spartanburg will host that event.
