Gardner-Webb's Arey, Glamsland Earn Big South Conference Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb senior Brandi Arey and freshman Eline Glamsland were each honored by the Big South Conference with women's soccer weekly awards Monday afternoon.

Arey (Huntersville, N.C. / Hough HS) was named Big South Conference Attacking Player of the Week and Glamsland (Lillesand, Norway / Lillesand Ungdomskole) was named Big South Conference/Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week for the second Monday in a row.

The pair played a key role in Gardner-Webb extending its win streak to four matches.

Arey continued to provide great opportunities for Gardner-Webb offensively, assisting on three of the team's five goals in two victories. She also scored the game winner herself at Winthrop on Saturday afternoon, finding the net in the 74th minute of a 2-1 decision.

Her effective play helped Gardner-Webb (8-7-2, 5-2 Big South) to a 2-0 week on the road in league play, which helped complete GWU's rise to the top of the Big South Conference standings. The Runnin' Bulldogs are tied with Radford atop the standings with two regular season matches remaining on the schedule.

Arey had two assists in Gardner-Webb's 3-0 win at UNC Asheville on Wednesday night, the third shutout win in a row for the 'Dogs. She followed with another assist to give Gardner-Webb a 1-0 lead in the second half at Winthrop, then provided the game winner off an assist from Glamsland and Stine Kleppe.

Arey leads the team currently with 15 points on the season (five goals, five assists). Her goal on Saturday was her 20th in a solid career with Gardner-Webb. Arey now has 53 career points in 65 starts over four seasons.

Glamsland, the reigning Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, put together another outstanding seven-day stretch to help Gardner-Webb to a pair of conference wins on the road.

She scored a pair of goals in Gardner-Webb's 3-0 win in Asheville on Wednesday night, helping the Runnin' Bulldogs pull away for its third shutout win in a row – and did so on just four shots. Glamsland collected an assist on Arey's game winner at Winthrop on Saturday as well.

Glamsland has emerged as a consistent threat of late, ranking second on the team with 12 points – four goals and four assists. She has played in 17 matches.

Gardner-Webb will attempt to cap an outstanding season in league play, as it makes a run at its first conference title with two home matches on tap this week.

GWU will host Charleston Southern on Wednesday night (7:00 pm) and will host Campbell on Senior Night, Saturday (October 22) at 7:00 pm.
