BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb junior forward Jessica Ferguson was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Women's Division I Soccer Academic All-District III team Thursday.

The Lawrence, Kan., was one of 12 members of the District III team and was the lone representative from the Big South Conference on any of the District teams. She is eligible for inclusion on the upcoming CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.

Ferguson carries a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a Chemistry major with a minor in Mathematics. She was one of only three members of the All-District III team with a 4.0 GPA, joining midfielders Emily Littell (George Mason) and Kacy Scarpa (Vanderbilt).

On the field, Ferguson has played in all 19 matches for Gardner-Webb, helping the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 9-8-2 overall record and a 6-3 mark in league play. GWU finished tied for third in the Big South Conference regular season standings.

Ferguson finished the regular season with 10 starts, three goals and an assist. She was efficient, putting three of her 11 total shots in the back of the net and putting seven of those 11 shots on frame (63.6 percent) – one of the top marks on the team.

Ferguson's goals came in a 1-1 draw at Maryland (8/21), a 4-1 win over South Carolina State (9/7) and a 5-1 win at Alabama State (9/18).

Her performance helped Gardner-Webb to its first winning regular season since 2009.

The Runnin' Bulldogs host No. 5 seed Longwood in the Big South Conference Tournament quarterfinals Friday night (October 28) at 7:00 pm.
