Women's Tennis Drops 7-0 Match At Davidson In 2017 Season Opener

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped its season opener Saturday, falling by a 7-0 score at Davidson.

The Wildcats swept the doubles point, getting a pair of 6-1 wins and took a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles .

Sarah Rieckmann opened No. 2 singles with a 7-5 win in the first set, but fell 6-3 and 1-0 (5) as Davidson's Megan Scholvinck rallied for the win.

Davidson took straight sets wins in the remaining singles battles, with Gardner-Webb's Catherine White dropping a tough 7-5 set to open No. 5 singles – and losing the second set by a 6-3 score.

Gardner-Webb will get back to action on Tuesday, January 31 against Charlotte. The match is set for a 2:00 pm start in Boiling Springs.
