Gardner-Webb Loses 5-2 Match To Charlotte 49ers Tuesday Afternoon In 2017 Home Opener

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb's women's tennis squad dropped a 5-2 decision to Charlotte Tuesday afternoon in the home opener for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Charlotte jumped out to the lead early by winning the doubles point, taking No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1, respectively.

The Runnin' Bulldogs prevented the doubles' sweep, as Catherine White and Sara Rieckmann took a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

White captured a straight sets win at No. 5 singles, taking a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Daniela Naupari also rallied to win at No. 3 singles after falling 6-1 in the opening set. She rolled to a 6-0 win in the second set, then took the match with a 2-1 (retire) win in the third.

The 49ers took straight sets wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to seal the match.

Gardner-Webb (0-2) will be back in action on Saturday as they take on North Carolina Central in Durham, N.C. at 1:00pm.
