BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb saw its five-match win streak snapped Friday afternoon, as Liberty posted a 5-2 win in Big South Conference women's tennis action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (10-5, 4-3 Big South) got wins at No. 1 singles and No. 5 singles in its first loss since March 4. Liberty (8-9, 5-0 Big South) won its fifth league match in as many tries.
The Flames picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the early team point – and won at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles in straight sets to secure the win. Anna Dollar outlasted Daniela Naupari at No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 score for the fifth win of the afternoon for Liberty.
Sandra Bolstad fought back from a 6-4 loss in her first set to take wins of 6-4 and 6-3 for the victory at No. 1 singles over Rebekah Anderson.
Catherine White continued her strong play at No. 5 singles for Gardner-Webb, also rallying from a loss in her first set (6-4) to win the second by a 6-1 score. White then battled past Mariely Hassey for a 10-8 win in her third and decisive set.
White also teamed with Sarah Rieckmann for a win at No. 2 doubles (6-1)
Gardner-Webb will step out of conference on Sunday, traveling to Western Carolina for a 1:00 pm bout. GWU will then return home to host Elon on Wednesday at 2:00 pm, before closing out Big South Conference action on Tuesday, April 11 vs. Presbyterian (2:00 pm).
