BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb picked up a key Big South Conference win Tuesday afternoon, blanking Presbyterian by a 7-0 score in women's tennis action to wrap up the regular season in style.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (12-5, 5-3 Big South) also wrapped up their highest finish in the conference regular season since moving to NCAA Division I – taking fourth in the Big South Conference standings.
Mixon and Sandra Bolstad cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles and White teamed with Sarah Rieckmann at No. 2 doubles for a 6-3 win to secure the point. Daniela Naupari and Miljana Ristic followed suit with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Ristic put Gardner-Webb up 2-0 on the team scoreboard with a quick, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Presbyterian's Nuthall. Bolstad wasted little time pushing the edge to 3-0, taking down Tracy Johnson in straight sets as well (6-3, 6-2).
Naupari clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, but there was more left in the tank for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Rieckmann posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and Mixon got on the board with a straight sets win of her own at No. 6 singles – beating Katie Thompson in her final home match by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
White, who entered Tuesday's action with an undefeated mark at home this season, kept that streak alive – finishing her final match at No. 5 singles with a grueling win by scores of 6-1, 6-7 (8) and 10-4 over a game effort from the Blue Hose' Nicole Croxton.
Up next for Gardner-Webb is the Big South Conference Championship, which is set for April 20-23 in Winston-Salem, N.C., on the campus of Wake Forest University.
